Oh goodness, where has this week gone?! Well anyways, let’s get to it!
I found this awesome spool lamp at a thrift store back home in Southern Illinois. Like I mentioned, in a previous post, I like to hit up the local spots when I’m back in my stomping grounds. So there I was, browsing this second-hand store when I saw this lovely gem sitting on the shelf for $15. My first thought was, “I bet it doesn’t even work”, so I asked the lady in the store if she had a light bulb for me to test it with. Sure enough when I flipped the switch it turned right on. Needless to say I was one happy gal!
The only minor problem was the part that held the bulb had a white plastic piece that stuck out like a sore thumb. I immediately thought of covering it with twine/rope, as long as the piece didn’t get hot when the lamp was on. The last thing we need is a house fire! When I got it home I left it on for about 4 hours to see if the plastic heated up and it didn’t, YAY! This meant I could proceed with my original vision of wrapping it with rope. One quick trip to Home Depot, a little rope, and some hot glue really made a difference.
However, there was still one major thing missing, a light bulb. Sure I have plenty of extra bulbs in the house, but they are all LED and very bright…trust me I tried one and almost burned my eyeballs out looking at it! After that, I knew I had to get an Edison bulb. I’m not sure about all of you, but I just love Edison bulbs. One they look really cool and two they give off such great moody light. I picked one up from Home Goods for $5 and “TaDa” just like that the lamp was a shining masterpiece! Well at least in my eyes.
The lamp now sits in our living room and we thoroughly enjoy its company.
Well that’s all for now, but as always, please feel free to share your thrifting stories by commenting or emailing me.
Until next time, happy thrifting!
