Christmas Decor On A Budget!

November 30, 2016

OK guys, I’m not going to lie I have been neglecting the blog and all things related to it these past few weeks, and for that, I am truly sorry. I’m still trying to figure this all out and well it’s not as easy as one may think, but onward and upward!!

Today, I wanted to share with you all how I decorated our home for Christmas for $200! You may be thinking that is a lot to spend for seasonal decor, but we literally had nothing. So off I went to spend as little as possible….the results of my thriftiness are below.

The first stop I made was to none other than the Dollar Tree. If you haven’t ever ventured into the good Ole Dollar Tree I highly suggest it; you’ll be surprised. This is where I found my  artificial holly berries that were mixed with pine cone’s and branches. After I mixed them in with a few cuttings from our tree, the arrangement really came together nicely.

3 Holly Berry Sprigs-$3

I also found a few ornaments that I couldn’t pass up, I mean when everything is a $1 how do you say no?

Set of two dove ornaments- $1

Cardinal tree clip – $1

Walmart was also a great spot for good Christmas decor deals this year. I price checked with other stores and well they just couldn’t be beat with what I was looking for. This is where I got the bulk of our ornaments and a few other odds and ends.

101 Ornaments- $29

The next six ornaments were all $1.94 each.

Unfortunately, Walmart didn’t have the buffalo plaid tree ribbon I was looking for so I had to venture to JoAnn Fabric Store.
I consider my trip to JoAnn’s fate because I found/bought the last flannel buffalo plaid tree ribbon spool they had left. I’m not sure if they had more in the back, but it was the only one left on the shelf which led me to believe I was lucky to have gotten my hands on it. I also grabbed two smaller spools of sparkly burlap ribbon and made my way to the check out. There is where I found out that I had not only found the last spool of buffalo plaid ribbon I also got it on sale for $4.99! I was one happy shopper!!

At this point I had everything I needed to trim our tree, but we still needed stockings! I had been looking at all the stores and online, but just couldn’t fathom spending $10+ per stocking. I held out until black Friday and then made my way to HomeGoods. This was a dangerous move for me, as I love this store and usually end up with things in my cart that I don’t necessarily need. Like the 800 thread count sheets that I bought 2 months ago that were still in my trunk because I had buyers remorse and didn’t take them in the house. Well they came to my rescue that day because I returned them and used that money to get our stockings, a tree topper, gift tags, and a great smelling cinnamon candle! Now if that wasn’t a thrifty move I’m not sure what is?!

Galvanized Letter- Walmart

Then Dan and I had to buy the not so fun stuff like a tree stand and lights for the ginormous tree we were planning to cut down. Home Depot was our store of choice for these purchases. We knew this would be the bulk of our budget as a tree stand for a 12ft+ tree is not cheap and then lights for a tree, that big as well. Luckily we made it out of there for $80, which we felt was pretty good. Also, these are purchases that we are hoping will last us for years to come, so we invested a little more in this area.

Last, but certainly not least, we went and cut our tree down at a local tree farm for $40. If we had tried to buy the size tree we cut down we would have spent well over $60 for it. Personally, I enjoy picking out our own tree and cutting it down ourselves. Nothing says Christmas like walking through a tree farm on a cold November day wearing your boots and gloves. If you don’t mind getting a little dirty and want a real tree this is the route to go! Even better yet, after getting the tree home we had to cut some of the bottom branches off to get it into the stand. Obviously these branches became decor!! Win, win!!

Tip – use an old blanket for a tree skirt

Our house isn’t decked to halls by any means, but with what we had to work with it’s pretty jolly around here!!
If you were thrifty with your Christmas decor I would love to hear about it! Please comment or contact me!!!

 Until next time,
